What do I really do?

Posted By Holly Newton, Homeopath, 01 September 2025

I began my homeopathic training in 2016 and since then, I’ve been continuously refining how I communicate what I do – because "homeopath" doesn’t necessarily mean anything to the person I’m talking to. When asked, I usually begin with: “I’m a natural health practitioner and I help people with...” but the truth is, what I help with rarely fits tidily into a single sentence.

In reality, most people come to me with a primary concern – a persistent symptom, a troubling health issue, or an emotional discomfort. Yet what often unfolds through the course of our work together is much more layered and holistic. I’ve seen time and time again that the symptom that brings someone to me is just the tip of the iceberg. As their treatment progresses, they start to notice changes in areas they hadn’t even expected – often improvements in sleep, digestion, mood, energy, clarity, and confidence. It is this broader transformation that continues to remind me of how meaningful this work is, and why I love it.

Curious to better understand the symptoms that bring patients to me, I recently opened my filing cabinet of notes and reflected on the feedback I’ve received during follow-up appointments over the past year. I carefully tallied the symptoms my patients told me had eased, improved, or resolved altogether and the results were both enlightening and affirming. I hadn’t realised quite how many of my patients experienced anxiety prior to taking remedies, or that the most common physical symptom to improve was sleep difficulties.

From this review, I can now say that the top five physical symptoms my patients have found relief from after taking homeopathic remedies are:

Sleep disturbances
Hormonal imbalances (hot flushes, menstrual pain, etc.)
Skin conditions (eczema, psoriasis, etc.)
Recurring illnesses
Digestive troubles (including IBS and related symptoms)

On the emotional side the top five are:

Anxiety
Hormonal influences (including brain fog and mood swings)
ASD/ADHD-related challenges
Motivation issues
Boundary-setting difficulties

When patients come on board I ask for permission to “anonymously use details of [their] pathology, treatment, prescriptions, photographs and case notes for training, educational and marketing purposes” and I am very grateful to the vast majority who agree to this statement. It means I can share with you some of these success stories that reflect the gentle yet profound impact that homeopathic remedies can have on everyday lives.

Here are just a few snippets from the thirteen pages of quotes I wrote!

Physical

🌿 “I’m sleeping more soundly, feel like I’m getting proper sleep”

✨ “No hot flushes and no night sweats”

💜 “Eczema has completely gone”

🌟 “I’m no longer waking every day with a headache”

💚 “My IBS was so bad I couldn’t leave the house, but since the remedy it has completely gone”

😊 “The pain in my wrists and fingers has gone”

📌 “Bedtimes are a dream! The remedy helped massively, it was like a switch. It is so lovely to have a nice bedtime”

Emotional

🪻 “I have the energy and enthusiasm to do things”

🍀 “I feel stronger inside. More capable. I feel like I can do things”

🕊️ “Even with stressful life events, I’m managing well”

🩷 “I feel calmer, my husband also noticed, he said I’m back to who I used to be”

💪 “The remedy gave me the motivation to start weight training again”

💬 “I’m not catastrophising or dwelling on things”

💡 “I’ve had a lot of realisations, I’m learning a lot about myself, seeing things more clearly”

🌈 “I feel great! Really different. More steady, balanced, like a cloud has lifted”

Thank you to all my patients for sharing your stories with me, engaging in the process of healing with homeopathy and using natural healthcare for yourselves and your families.

Key Differences Between IBS and IBD: Understanding and Managing Both

Posted By Anni Summers, Registered Dietitian and Gut Health Specialist, 16 May 2024

Key Differences Between IBS and IBD: Understanding and Managing Both

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) might share symptoms like abdominal pain and bloating, but they are fundamentally different conditions with unique causes and treatment methods.

IBS, classified as a disorder of gut-brain interaction, presents symptoms without visible damage to the intestines and is managed primarily through dietary and lifestyle changes for symptom management. In contrast, IBD is an autoimmune disease causing chronic inflammation and damage to the gastrointestinal tract, requiring more complex treatments including anti-inflammatory medications and potentially surgery.

Understanding these differences is crucial for accurate diagnosis and effective treatment. For a deeper dive into how these conditions affect daily life and their distinct diagnostic approaches and treatment strategies, check out the full blog. Understanding the IBS-Stress Connection: How Stress Influences Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Posted By Anni Summers, Registered Dietitian and Gut Health Specialist, 18 April 2024
Understanding the relationship between stress and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is crucial for managing the uncomfortable symptoms of this digestive disorder. Stress impacts IBS through hormonal changes, particularly the release of cortisol, which disrupts digestion and increases gut sensitivity. The connection between the mind and the gut, known as the gut-brain axis, plays a vital role in how stress affects IBS symptoms.

Recognising and managing stress triggers is essential for improving digestive health. Exercise, mindfulness, and meditation can significantly alleviate stress and, consequently, reduce IBS symptoms. Additionally, dietary adjustments like reducing caffeine and high-fat foods, and incorporating probiotics, can support a healthier gut.

For those struggling with stress-related IBS, adopting a holistic approach that includes both psychological and physical interventions is beneficial. Maintaining a healthy work-life balance, managing stress through practical techniques, and seeking professional guidance are key strategies for effective IBS management.

A Minute or Two with Beverley Densham from Mindfulness Pilates

Posted By Beverley Densham, Pilates, 26 November 2023

1 who is the face behind the label?

I’m a completely single parent to my 18 year old son Sammy & proud of the parent I am. I have a deep love for the sea, plunging in the sea all year round, walking by the sea and in nature, sitting in nature to be, rest & journal, a passion of mine, love coffee shops, cosy family time at home & saunas on the beach!

2. What’s your Unique Selling Proposition (USP)?

Helping you reduce back pain to feel good, but it’s much more than that, the Mindfulness Pilates 121 programmes & classes include meditation, mindset, positive affirmations & 1 minute journaling, teaching you how to incorporate Pilates into your daily lifestyle & also to help with your mental health, wellbeing & happiness too.
The stress management teaching is for individuals & teams, whether that’s a law firm, corporate, teacher, school or nurse. The stress to calm tools are 1 minute each or 7 minutes in total, they are do-able & effective for stress management, better mental health & wellbeing.

I can help you…

Why?

Help you feel better. Help you move better and do more in your life. Even if you have health problems, chronic fatigue I can even help you with a sitting 121 or sitting class.

My classes are for ALL levels of fitness and even those struggling with their health & all ages

I give people their confidence back in their own bodies and minds.

If you can’t do something, it doesn’t matter, I will find you a comfortable alternative & teach you to say well done to what you can do, accept where you are & find a new quality of life

I  ALWAYS adapt - make people feel special in class. This is important to me, love doing that for people. That’s gold for people

3. What time does your typical day start?

8am -2pm is the main teaching & meetings of the day, with 10 classes a week, business networking, writing books, radio & podcast interviews, articles to write.

I then go out to play, a walk in a park, a cappuccino & journaling time, see a friend for a plunge in the sea or something to get moving & rest.

Then back to work lying down with the laptop! Sometimes another interview

4. Full English or yoghurt and muesli?

It’s a pack of celery juiced! Followed by chocolate porridge & blueberries

5. What drives you?

There is a spark of inspiration and determination which drives me & am constantly learning & researching different ways & new tools to help with mental health & happiness. I like designing things to help with making a difference to your wellbeing, physical, mental health & happiness, which of course is for the soul & family life, work & having a harmonious home is of paramount importance.

If I can bring some extra sparkle and happiness to someone’s day and help reduce some of their aches & pains that’s a good day.

My son Sammy drives me too, to be the best Mum & role model I can be for him too

To be a role model, practicing what I teach.

6. What are you most proud of in your business?

That after over 25 years of teaching that I’m more inspired than ever & that it’s a more rich & profound experience working with me now, you’ll gain multiple benefits. I was so proud of book 1, book 2 I talk to angels was so proud, like a Wimbledon Trophy seeing it in a bookshop & Waterstones for the first time, exciting becoming a published Author & having a team, I jumped for JOY. Olympic champion Dame Kelly Holmes writing the foreword to the book was amazing too.

To have helped many clients become pain free or reduce their pains & live better quality of life

To be following my guidance & inspiration with the next series of books am very proud, it’s been so tough but now living a dream lifestyle & come through the light at the end of the tunnel. With mental health it can be a dark tunnel at times and my wish is our books the stress to calm series help many with their mental health, wellbeing & stress management at home & work, life doesn’t have to be as tough, try our stress to calm tools to feel & see the difference

So the next 3 books with my co-Author Janey Lee Grace are Stress to Calm in 7 minutes for Lawyers, then for teachers & nurses too…..

The Girl Who Changed My Life

Posted By Karon Foxwell, Tropic, 30 March 2021
Updated: 22 February 2022

Karon Foxwell is a Tropic ambassador from West Sussex and a member of our Connect Curie online group. The WIBN partnership with the Prince's Trust #changeagirlslife campaign for International Women's Day inspired Karon to tell her story of the girl who changed her life, her daughter Lili.

A Life-Changing Arrival

Lili was a bundle of joy welcomed by her mum, dad and big sister Bella 25 years ago. Always a happy and adventurous child, as Lili got older she found it increasingly difficult to deal with some situations, especially when it came to school. As Lili struggled her behaviour became very challenging and it would often stretch the family to their limit. From struggling to fit in with her peers, to a lack of understanding in her main-stream school, Karon and her husband spent many sleepless nights worrying about Lili and how they could continue to manage as a family.

A Lack Of Understanding

As was often the case 20 years ago there was little understanding of Lili's additional needs, and the mental health needs of children in general. This meant that Karon struggled to get the help that Llli so desperately needed from the education system or the NHS. The whole family had to adapt and learn to live with Lili's struggles in order to support her. It was a baptism of fire with little support, however, it changed Karon and she evolved into the open and accepting person that she is today. It also taught Lili's sister Bella to be accepting and open-minded from a young age as she supported her sister.

"Living with autism changed me and my entire family, it changed my approach to life, we evolved and learnt and coped together."

By the time Lili was 13 and after many trips to the doctors, she was finally diagnosed with Asperger syndrome. Whilst this put a 'label' on Lili's struggles it did little to change the families day to day life. Karon remembers struggling to access information and help as autism was something that nobody talked about. Lili was really struggling and the whole family felt like it was at breaking point.

"You are only as happy as your least happy child"

An Act Of Kindness

Everything changed with an act of kindness by Karon's neighbour Humphrey. During a particularly bad day, Karon was sat on the step outside her house crying when Humphrey passed her a note written in purple ink on blue paper. The note contained details of a school called Stanbridge Earls which specialised in helping children with Autism.

Once Lili started attending the school everything changed. She became independent, progressed academically and was being taught "the way she needed to be taught". After Stanbridge Lili attended Bangor University which has fantastic support resources for students with autism.

A Happy Life

After graduating Lili travelled the world before entering the world of finance. She had a bumpy ride working for a stockbroker who struggled to understand her autism and she left the role.

However, Lili is now working as a trader at a hedge fund in Guernsey and is "living her best life". She's just bought a soft-top car and is learning to surf.

Lili is the only woman on the desk in a completely male-dominated company and is thriving in her role. She has gone from the girl who struggled to fit in, to a woman who is commanding her own space and challenging herself and her colleagues every day.

Lili is also involved in talking with companies and helping them to understand what it is like to employ people with autism. And she hopes this will improve the acceptance of people with autism in the workplace.

Karon says that the happiness that Lili has now achieved in her life has changed hers all over again.

"Because she's happy, it's made me feel so happy. I feel complete"

If Karon could go back in time she says she says that she would tell her younger self that "It will all be OK" and that these hard times will come good in the end.
