How to choose a wedding photographer

Posted By Emily McNeal, Owner, 24 May 2023

For some couples they relish in the process of searching for the venue, suppliers and logistics it takes to get a wedding day to run like clockwork. Whilst others can find the whole build up very stressful, hence why I wrote this blog for couples to consider when choosing a wedding photographer.

So here's a few key areas to think about:

No. 1 STYLE

Do you like their photography style? Can you see you guys in their images? Do you want your wedding photos to look similar? If yes, then great.  If no, move on to someone who is right for you.

No. 2 LIKEABLE

You will spend a lot more time with your photographer on your wedding day than any other supplier.  Do you actually like them?  Would you hang out with them? Do you agree with their ethos and business practices? Book in a consultation, I wouldn't recommend booking a photographer until you know you like them!  You want your photographer to add to the joy of your wedding day - make sure they will.

No. 3 BUDGET

Does their prices and packages fit with your budget?  Generally speaking you will always get what you pay for.  Wedding photography entails a lot more than just the 12 hour day, so keep in mind the fee will also include admin and the editing time too.  Whatever your budget I believe there's a great photographer out there to fit with what your can afford.

No. 4 PROFESSIONALISM

I know it’s boring but check, do they have insurance? Are they part of any affiliations?  Do they have good business processes? Is the contract they have professional? For more info about me, my professional affiliations and examples of my work please check out https://www.spinkreative.co.uk/

If you're getting married please feel free to send me a message if you’d like to chat about your own photography requirements. I’d be happy to chat and I promise you’d bring some all-important joy with me on your big day!
