To celebrate International Women's Day 2022 we are shining a light on our fabulous members and their stories.

Each and every single one of them has an inspiring story about starting their own business. So read on to find out more.

Reva Shenker, owner of Shenker's Chartered Accountants

What first drew you to starting your business?

After qualifying and working in practice, I became a sole practitioner and then joined with my husband to form Shenkers.

What is the best thing about being your own boss?

When you work for yourself, even though you are responsible for all the decisions, you know that what you do is for yourself and you can tailor it to make it the best.

What's your advice to other women going into business?

It's not easy being your own boss and you have a lot of responsibility and obligations. You need to ensure that you create an environment of trust with your clients and staff.

You need to learn delegation, which is not such an easy skill to master, but if you are doing what you love, it makes it so much easier.

What is your top tip for success?

You sometimes need to give more, but the more you give the more you get back.

Tell us something about yourself we might not expect?

I am a middle-aged woman chartered accountant, and I love rock music, as well as everything from swing, to light classical to disco. This is how I was viewed by our computer support people, until they took my computer away for mending and found Queen's greatest hits on my CD drive! They didn't know I also had Led Zeppelin's greatest hits!
