To celebrate International Women's Day 2022 we are shining a light on our fabulous members and their stories.

Each and every single one of them has an inspiring story about starting their own business. So read on to find out more.

Ali Lawrence, Volunteer Community Ambassador at Kidney Research UK

What first drew you to starting your current role?

I have been living with kidney disease for two decades and back in 2020 I was put on the kidney transplant list and started kidney dialysis. I gave up work in the summer of 2021 so I could be in the best physical and mental health for when I got my kidney transplant and wanted to do something to help spread awareness of kidney disease.

What is the best thing about your current role?

Knowing that by being a Volunteer Community Ambassador for Kidney Research UK I can share my story and raise awareness of kidney disease. My hope is that by doing this lots of people will be diagnosed early and avoid dialysis and a transplant.

What's your advice to other women going into business?

Do something that you feel passionate about.

What is your top tip for success?

Do something that you feel passionate about!

Tell us something about yourself we might not expect?

I played Darth Vader in my brownie Christmas play.
