To celebrate International Women's Day 2022 we are shining a light on our fabulous members and their stories.

Each and every single one of them has an inspiring story about starting their own business. So read on to find out more.

Alexandra Lunn, Design Director at Alexandra Lunn Studio Ltd

What first drew you to starting your business?

I’ve always been adventurous. I think differently. Where I felt this was a setback in my earlier years, I now see that being and thinking differently is good. It allows me to come up with innovative and original designs naturally. In turn, this makes my clients stand out; my clients come to me for something different.

What is the best thing about being your own boss?

Freedom. That there’s always something to look forward to.

What's your advice to other women going into business?

  • Go for it.
  • Get a good mentor–they’re out there and people want to help! I chat often with a good one. It makes your life richer to work with people who have different viewpoints; it’s obviously always up to you to choose what works for you and what doesn't but knowing that it exists is really helpful in developing your thinking and then critical thinking.
  • Stay focussed on your goals.
  • Don’t overthink it.

What is your top tip for success?

There are so many!

  • Focus on the good.
  • Persevere.
  • Be positive.
  • Having a routine is essential for me.
  • Knowing who you are, what you do and genuinely loving what you do helps, too.

Tell us something about yourself we might not expect?

I teach graphic design every Wednesday and Thursday evening.
