Luton Member Suzanne Spicer Wins Gold At National Best Business Women Awards

WIBN Luton member & founder of accountancy firm Spicer & Co has won a prestigious gold award at the National Best Business Women Awards. Suzanne Spicer, picked up the award for the Best Woman in Business Services category of the national awards after being a runner-up at last year’s event. 
An Inspirational Woman In BusinessSuzanne, who started Spicer & Co in 2014, has seen her company grow to a team of ten – including husband, Steve, who’s the firm’s business development manager, and sister, Annette, their payroll manager. She said: "It was brilliant to go on stage at the gala final in London to collect the award but really it was a win for all of us."’Suzanne, who lives in Leighton Buzzard with Steve and their children, has had a busy year. ‘We’ve worked really hard to support our clients and local businesses throughout the pandemic. We had so many people phoning us asking for information on applying for grants or needing advice on how to pivot their business. 
Praise From The Judges’The awards judges were impressed by Suzanne’s commitment. "Suzanne is an exceptional businesswoman who has grown her business from her kitchen table to a thriving practice, and she gave a tremendous amount of free support to businesses during the pandemic." Suzanne said: "After such a challenging time it was lovely to win the award and be recognised for our dedication. 
Giving BackSpicer & Co are well known in the community for supporting local charities. Earlier this year Suzanne and sister Annette raised almost £700 for The Captain Tom Foundation when they completed the Great North Run. Spicer & Co were also approached by one of their clients to attend an interview with Hannah (daughter of Captain Tom) and her husband Colin regarding bookkeeping, payroll and accounting assistance for the Foundation. 
Suzanne and her team spent an emotional morning in Marston Moretaine with them, where they heard some amazing the stories. Spicer & Co are now accountants for The Captain Tom Foundation. Suzanne and husband Steve will also be running the Luton Half Marathon in aid of the Luton Curry Kitchen. A Supportive NetworkSuzanne is a member of WIBN Luton run by Louise Yexley. Suzanne says. "Since joining WIBN over 5 years ago, I have met so many amazing businesswomen. The challenges we face as women business owners can seem much less daunting when you have the support of WIBN behind you. They are always there for advice and encouragement when you need it most. Without WIBN, I would not have met the amazing women who have helped me to achieve my goals and reach the position in my career where I am today."
