"If you're not networking, you're not working"
Networking is a brilliant way to spread the word about your business and gain referrals. But.. what if you have tried it and hated it, or don't know where to start?
Networking events present you with opportunities with other business people who are in similar circumstances as you work to grow your business. So, it's well worth persevering and making the most of networking opportunities. To do this you need a plan,
so we've put together our top tips for making the most out of networking.
Seek Out Connections

When you attend events, look for signs that someone might be in a position to benefit your business. Then think of an icebreaker to introduce yourself. It's always best to do this when you have something to offer as well.
This could be a conversation about an update within your industry or the suggestion of a beneficial connection. The most important skill for effective business networking is listening; focus on how you can help the person you are listening to rather
than how they can help you. This is the first step to establishing a mutually beneficial relationship.
Opening the conversation is the hard bit, once you start talking the rest is easy.
Exchange Details
When you meet someone, it's a good idea to exchange business cards. It can be difficult to remember everybody's name, especially if it's your first time meeting them. Make sure your business card includes your name, position, business name and your contact
details. It's always good to incorporate something memorable like your company strapline so your card makes you memorable.
Follow Up

The connections you make and the conversations you have at a networking event are brilliant, however, the follow up is even better.
Reach out after the event with an email or connection request on LinkedIn. You can then discuss any topics that were brought up in the conversations you had with them. After a few interactions, you may then arrange to meet up again for a one-to-one,
either in person or online.
A one-to-one is where you can make your best connections with fellow business people. It's a great chance to share your story and find out more about them and explore any business opportunities that may arise.
Diversify
Once you start networking you will undoubtedly find a group you feel comfortable in, and that's great. You will make your best connections where you feel comfortable.
However, it's also important to keep our eye out for other events and business seminars that may be beneficial. By attending a range of networking events you can cultivate new relationships with a wider range of peers and business associates.
Nurture Your Network
The best way to spread the word about your amazing business is to let other people do it for you. A referral from a woman in your network to a new client is worth its weight in gold.
But... this doesn't happen by magic. In order for people to recommend you to someone, they need to know that you are CREDIBLE, TRUSTWORTHY and CONSISTENT.
So... keep in touch with your network, whether that's via email or social media. Email them an article you think would be helpful, or check-in to see if they are well. Comment on their posts, share their offers, recommend them where you can. Nurture
those contacts and reap the rewards.
